FKT

Attempt - May, 2020

"The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is one of the world's classic multiday hikes, and was once billed as one of the most beautiful treks in the world. The route consists of 230km of trail with 11,000 meters of elevation gain and has a max altitude of 5,417 meters, over Thorong La Pass. On average, trekkers will take 14 days to complete the full circuit. "

The current FKT (Fastest Known Time) was set in 2017, by Greek ultra athlete Lefteris Paraskevas, who finished it in 68 Hours 22 Minutes

2019

In 2019, I jumped in to the Ultra scene, by signing up for the Edmonton 100km, Squamish 50 Mile and the Golden 120km.

I quickly fell in love with the training, being able to test my body and prove to myself that these physical feats were far from impossible, if trained and conditioned properly.

Come June, I ended up winning the Edmonton 100km. July, I placed 5th in the Squamish 50 Mile then another 1st in September at the Golden 120km and holding the course record

2020

Looking forward, I began to search elsewhere for further curiosity to what the human body is capable of. Haven been to Nepal before, I always new I would return with another project in the Himalaya. The idea sparked when asked to guide a trip to Everest Base camp, knowing I'd be back in that area, an idea for an FKT arose and my first thought was the Annapurna Circuit. The idea of running 230km of trail around the Annapurna massif over a 5400m pass and doing so under 68 hours was far more than intriguing

Training

Some of the many groomed trails I've been clocking hours on in Banff National Park

Running along the summit ridge of Mt. Rundle before running over and tagging the summit of Ha Ling

Ill be arriving to Nepal end of March, where Ill fly to the Everest region of Nepal and train there for just over a month. Acclimating to the high altitudes and simulating the Annapurna Circuit by adding in large amounts of elevation gain. Hitting iconic locations such as; Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Ri, Kala Pattar and many other high passes and peaks. As I build up my trining here in the Canadian rockies, I have doubled my monthly elevation gain, logging nearly 17,000 meters last month

Tunnel mountain, backing on to the town of Banff, is one of the best winter running trails in the valley. Always packed down, with a steady climb of 300m over 3km of runable terrain.

"Adding a low impact sport like X-country skiing in to my training, has given me faster recovery after big days, allowing me to log more hours, KM and vertical meters to my weekly training schedule

Throughout the month and a half my time in the Everest region, I'll be training daily to acclimate to the high altitudes. While doing so i'll be documenting it and creating short videos showing my training and the life in the Everest region. All media I produce will be posted to my social media during the trip and longer edited films will be posted post expedition.

My goal will be to create two short 1 minute films based on my training, and one longer film about 3 minutes in length on the FKT attempt,

All videos will be documented in Vlog style, explaining how my body is dealing with altitudes, Nutrition and life at over 4000m.
